Hunterdon Healthcare’s inpatient behavioral health unit is a 14 bed open voluntary facility that provides short term intensive treatment for patients in need of inpatient psychiatric stabilization or detoxification.

Inpatient Services at Hunterdon Behavioral Health include:

• A 14-bed open voluntary facility
• Short-term intensive treatment for patients in need of inpatient stabilization
• Detoxification from alcohol and/or drugs

Our goal is to return patients to families, workplace and community as quickly as possible.

• The average length of stay is 5 days.
• We involve patients and their families in treatment and recovery.

Who can benefit from Hunterdon Behavioral Health's inpatient service unit?

• Patients 18 years of age or older who have the potential to benefit from short-term intensive treatment of psychiatric problems or addiction(s)
• Patients who are willing to become an active participant in treatment

What services are available through Hunterdon Behavioral Health's inpatient unit?

• Multidisciplinary assessment, including complete psychiatric assessment
• Medication management
• Individual, group and family counseling
• Activity therapy
• Psycho-education for patients and families Discharge planning and linkage to follow-up support services

How are patients evaluated?

• The multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, nursing assessment and psychosocial evaluation and activity assessment.
• Patients admitted for detoxification are also evaluated by an addictions treatment counselor.

Hunterdon Behavioral Health's inpatient unit provides a comfortable setting that encourages interaction with peers, family and staff, and facilitates wellness.

• Patients have access to a stocked kitchen, large lounge area and patio.
• One-on-one sessions and family meetings take place in private areas, ensuring complete confidentiality.
• A quiet area of the lounge provides a peaceful and relaxing environment to read, listen to music or watch videos.
• Patients can also participate in supervised crafts, if they so desire.

What happens upon discharge from Hunterdon Behavioral Health's inpatient services unit?

• Discharge planning is central to the treatment process, and is initiated at the time of admission.
• The treatment team, along with the patient and his or her family, identify discharge needs.
• The treatment team provides referrals to related programs and services, including outpatient care, employment support and ongoing monitoring.
